Iowa Got The Letter

US Secretary of Education Cardona sent a letter to Governor Kim Reynolds and Director Ann Lebo putting them on notice that the US DOE will be minding the store.

I will have more soon. But hopefully this gives Iowans a sort of back stop to press against the state.

The plan Iowa submitted and signed was misleading at best and purposefully deceptive at worst. Reynolds, Ed. Director Lebo signed legally binding documents in order to receive $$ hundreds of millions of US taxpayer money.

I have been reporting on this for a few months now and this letter from the US Department of Education is overdue.

You cannot take federal taxpayer dollars and not follow the rules.

If you or I lied on an application for a loan or credit card statement and signed off attesting to its truthiness? We would be on the hook.

Iowa Department of Education you aren't special, in fact I have heard from families across Iowa - with kids who have special needs, children who are medically fragile who need face to face learning but cannot send kids to school because of the Governor's discriminatory anti-mask laws.

People seem to forget - people with disabilities get to have rights too. We - the immunocompromised for example - are really sick of anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers bleating on about "freedom" and "tyranny" of basic goddamn public health measures.

Stop being big babies and take care of your fellow citizens.
